Why have you chosen this Avenues Logo? We asked Deanna Blake to create a logo for us. This is what she says about her design, "One of my ideas is about about cross sections, when our journeys come together, when we meet each other and God (intentional and unexpectedly), this is presented by interecting lines. We see road signs and sealed roads everyday and the Gospel should be the same, part of our everyday lives, guiding us on our way. You may have noticed I have made "A" slightly different to make it stand out, the concept was to make the word avenues be read with a double meaning, as avenues and venues. One of the features of your church and which is quite unique, is you don't have one fixed venue but many venues ( A venues). I used edgy fonts to capture the emergent and modern approach of the church."

Why don't you meet in the same place each time you have Avenues? This happened more by accident than design, but we're pretty pleased with the result. When Avenues first began it was a congregation in a regular style church so it used to meet weekly in the church buildings. The idea then was to create a local community. However, because of our unique style, we found we attracted people from all over Auckland and it wasn't a local group of all. When Avenues was no longer linked to that particular church community we had a choice about where to base ourselves geographically. And we realised that not only did the geographical base matter, but that our best Avenues events had been held in public spaces and places. So we wondered what Avenues would look like if we always met in different public spaces and places. This gave us the freedom to go anywhere; hence we've met in parks, beaches, community houses, homes, tourist spots and libraries. How can you be a church if you don't have a building? Somewhere along the way the word, 'church' has been used to refer to both a building and the people that gather in that building to worship. At Avenues 'Church' is the group of people. We are Church. We are followers of Jesus who meet regularly together to worship, to encourage each other and to be a church community. Our focus is on being church together not going to a church building. That doesn't mean we never meet in a church building, but rather that the building or meeting space is not essential to us being Church together. Why do you meet at different times? We want to convey the concept that being a follower of Jesus is a whole of life decision and our gathering together as a church supports this concept. Avenues is not just about meeting at 10am on Sunday. Our Avenues experience exists between events through ongoing relationships, and we have the flexibility to suit the day and time of each event to our theme. We've had events at sunrise, twilight, lunchtime, breakfast, morning tea, afternoon tea, Saturdays, Sundays, Mid week evenings... anything goes. We vary the times and days of the week we meet, so that if someone can't make one event due to another committment, they may be able to make the next event.
